NYC Interior must sees?

by Nathan on April 9, 2010

Whee – a weekend in New York. We’re just getting out and about. We’ve got some plans, the Whitney Biennial, shopping, shows… but I’d like to carve out some time to make the rounds this time among some of the interior hot spots. The wonderful Erin @ Slipcover Your Life offered me her insiders guide for me:

  • The second floor of Mood Fabrics. It’s all interior fabrics, AMAZING. Floor to ceiling upholstery in patterns you could never imagine.
  • BDDW down in Soho. Expensive, but GORGEOUS furniture.
  • Not sure where the Brooklyn Flea is this weekend, but they usually have great finds (my friend got an old elementary school file cabinet (it actually has these front windows that slide up? really cool)
The Calypso Home Store down in Soho.
  • Moss Gallery and MAD are two ‘museums’ that usually have really inspiring design items…

Any other suggestions? We’ve been away for a little under 6 years or so. Any ideas – food, music, fun, and shopping are welcome!!!

P.S. In the meantime I have to resist the urge to return home and rip out the entire mater bath and start over. The Surrey Hotels glass and marble bathrooms are making me want to start sourcing tiles and fixtures. *sigh*

It sounds so wonderful!
Not really a “must see”, but I enjoyed going to see Thomas O Brien’s (pre-Target) shop somewhere up there. I was sneered at by one of his gays I remember.
Oh, and Pearl River Market. I’m cheap.

anyway, have fun!

Thanks for the post! I am headed to NYC in a couple of weeks and I am collecting all the tips of where to go that I can. If I can’t find the perfect fabric for my dining room chairs on my trip then I may give up . . . it has only been two years looking! Love your bathroom redo by the way.
