The Black Apartment (really, really black!)

by laurelstreet on December 14, 2009

Take a look. This little pad was created for Cindy Gallop, an “international woman of mystery” who is the chairwoman of advertising giant BBH. Her brief for designer Stephan Boubill was simple: “at night, I want to feel like I’m in a shanghai nightclub…”

I think she got that, don’t you? What do you think – ‘home sweet home’ or ‘axe murderer lives here’?

Rumpus Room. Gucchi chainsaw, check.

More Rump

I'm kind of liking this one - maybe it's the mirror?

The Boudoir

For some reason I imagine Clodagh hanging out in here. Remember Clodagh?

Those lights are kind of hot...

The Library

By the way – follow the link for more photos and to see how Stephan Boubill dealt with her 300 pairs of shoes!

Too shiny and too much clutter. Gives black a bad name ha ha.

whoa, that’s a lot of black. i tend to like black walls sometimes, especially if it’s one black wall in a room. not sure about black curtains, black tiles, black walls, etc., but it’s interesting to browse through…

It does look like a nightclub. Yes, I can see “an international woman of mystery” living there…rather odd that you would be described in that way…even odder that you would want to live in a nightclub.

I wonder if they designed a beer and cigarette aroma to make it truly shanghai authentic.

I’m thinking it looks better after a couple of Mai Tai cocktails…

I like it, but I don’t love it. I love black rooms, but those lights on the ceiling make me kind of dizzy…and I hate her bathroom….oh and her furniture. Love the library however.

I get the feeling that you coudn’t kick your shoes off at the end of the day, pull on a pair of old track pants, put a Three Stooges movie on & have a raucous laugh. All very serious stuff methinks.

This is the kind of place I’d want to visit and spend a weekend – like an over the top hotel – but for every day I don’t think I could do it. I’m not mysterious enough(!)

I love the idea of a warm, insular, inviting dark space. But this isn’t it, at least not for me. I think its the added glam factor that just takes this over the top. The shiny surfaces, the neon, the chain saw (!)…it’s too staged, perhaps? That said, I admire the chutzpah and I wouldn’t turn down the art gallery wall, the library, nor that gorgeous Indonesian wedding bed.

Clodagh-hahahahahaaaaaaa!!!

AMAZING! I wish I had the guts to paint a room all black (like Jenna Lyons, my hero!) I’m getting closer with my dark teal and dark gray…

Where’s Bryn? Hasn’t she been contemplating a big move to a black bedroom? :)

Laughed at the “axe murderer lives here” line. Laughed again when I saw the Gucci chainsaw. It definitely gives off that vibe. Ha. Couldn’t live in a space like this, but it’s fun to look at!

Oh wow! This is stunning! So glossy and chic – I love it! It reminds me of a space Abigail Ahern would do!

So happy to have found your blog :)

I dig the shoe display. And those big silver balls over the dining room table.

Not sure I could live here though.

I typically love black and though I love elements about the rooms… I don’t know if I could live in this…It needs more natural light! Thanks for stopping by my blog, I love to find new readers!!! Happy Thursday!
